With the extremely wide array of motorcycle models and styles available today choosing which bike is right for you can be a difficult decision. A favorite of ours is the Adventure bike and it is designed for mixed terrain riding, you can take it for a little off-roading and also perfect for a commute. But before making that decision you really want to go through a checklist of what you need or what you do not need. Adventure bikes are among the options of so many, but before you officially decide you want an adventure bike we want to make sure it fits your needs and lifestyle!

Consider these 5 factors that we will go over.

Your Budget?

Keeping your budget in mind is an obvious and important factor to think about when choosing what bike you’d like to purchase. You can choose to purchase a new or pre-owned bike also. A brand new 1000cc plus adventure bike typically start off at around $18,500 or a smaller displacement bike, like something in the 250cc range, is around that $5,000 mark. With many financing options, you can surely make the bike yours. If you decide to go pre-owned you can find a bike for a bit less but also keep in mind there may be some maintenance that could even out to the price of a new one.

What Type of Terrain Do You Ride?

Adventure bikes are great for easier trails and long distance touring on dirt roads. If you will be riding on the pavement with occasional dirt road use an adventure bike is still a great option. There are different size adventure bikes, so you just have to ask yourself if you’ll be more off-road or more on the street. If you will be using your bike for more off-road use you’ll need a smaller sized bike to make sure you can handle the bike in the rougher terrain.

Passengers?

You want to consider how often you carry a passenger. If you carry a passenger occasionally for short distances then this factor should not impact your overall decision. If you plan on carrying your passenger for a long time or plan on constantly going on long distance trips you may want to choose a bigger bike. You can also choose to go with a bigger adventure bike but it will limit your off-road usage.  The best adventure motorcycle for 2-up riding is a larger 1000cc plus displacement bike that offers more stability and safety on the highway.

Commuting?

If you are a daily commuter, an adventure bike may not be the best fit for you. The bike is made to do a mixture of both but if you are constantly commuting more than you are off-road, consider another style of bike. Adventure bikes tend to be taller and the tire diameter and suspension is more dirt oriented. The tires that come on adventure bikes are also not ideal for an everyday commute, they're also more for off-roading.

How Far Will You Be Riding?

When planning on riding long distances the best adventure bike can be reliable and come with lots of good accessory options to make your long ride an enjoyable one. And you’ll also want to keep in mind what you will be bringing with you on the long trip. You’ll want to make sure you have enough storage capacity on your bike, and adventure bikes can definitely give you that option! Typically seats on an adventure bike are made to be a little more comfortable for long distances also. This is an ideal bike for long distances.

So Is It for You?

Now that we’ve gone over these very important 5-factors you can narrow down whether an adventure bike is a good option for you. Just remember that there are different options for adventure bikes and you can choose to go with a bigger one or a smaller body one depending on what type of riding you will be doing more of. If you’re going to make an adventure bike your first bike, carefully consider all of these factors before purchasing but overall this is a great bike for any rider who is dedicated to traveling and long distances!
