If you just purchased a motorcycle, you must be eager to take it out on the road. Riding your motorcycle for the first time is an anxious excitement, but you do not want to hop on your motorcycle without going over some prerequisites first. You need to make sure your motorcycle is in perfect condition because you go for a ride. Here is a list of things you need to do before riding your new motorcycle.

Replace all the Fluids:

A motorcycle depends on several fluids to keep it running. If you are planning to use your motorcycle on a daily basis, make it a routine to check the brake fluid, oil, and coolant of your motorcycle so that you can prevent problems from occurring. Make sure you check on the coolant to prevent your bike from over-heating. If the bike begins to overheat, you can spend a lot of money trying to fix the problem. Checking on these fluids regularly can save you a lot of money because it will prevent your motorcycle from having a bigger problem.

Check Brake Pads and Tires:

Before you decide to go on your first ride, you have to make sure everything with your motorcycle is in good shape. Before you drive off, check the tires to make sure they are in good condition. Make sure they are no objects embedded in them and check the tire pressure to make sure they have enough air. Check the brake pads are not worn down. If they are worn down to about one-eighth inch or less then they must be replaced. Brake pads and tires are very important parts of your motorcycle so make sure they are in perfect condition before riding.

Check Lights and Electrics Are Working Properly:

One of the most important things to look at before you drive off on your motorcycle is its electrics. Your motorcycle’s battery is crucial to starting and riding your bike, so it’s important to make sure it’s in good condition. Check the terminals to make sure they are clean and that the electrolyte levels are correct. Check the headlamp, brake lights, and turn signals are working properly too. Make sure to check the wires and switches to make sure they are working properly. If they are not, you must replace them.

Insider TIp: You `can get a ticket if your lights are not working properly so make sure all lights and electrics work before hitting the road.

Check the Bike Chain and Suspension:

Another thing you must check before you ride off on your motorcycle in its bike chain. Make sure the chain on your motorcycle is adjusted properly, lubricated, and cleaned for safe riding. Your motorcycle can develop some major problems if the chain is too loose or too tight. It is important to check the chain approximately every 500 miles you drive. Make sure to also clean the chain with either engine oil, WD-40, or another degreaser every couple of months to maintain it. In order for your motorcycle rides to feel smooth, the suspension has to be adjusted to accommodate your riding style. Make sure you adjust the sag suspension to something you are comfortable with. This will allow you to ride your motorcycle more confident.

Wear Safety Gear:

It can take time to get used to a new motorcycle. Riders need to feel comfortable riding and maneuvering in uneven surfaces, high winds, and wet or sandy roads before driving in heavy traffic. Riding a motorcycle can be dangerous and you need to have the right gear to stay safe and comfortable during your rides. The most important gear pieces you must wear at all times are a full-face helmet, a riding jacket and pants, riding boots, and gloves. The style and material of the gear will depend on preference but make sure you are wearing safety gear at all times.

Ride Safe!

Whether you are a rookie or a veteran motorcycle rider, owning a motorcycle comes with a lot of responsibility. There are a lot of things you must check before you can actually take your motorcycle on the road. Make sure your motorcycle is 100% ready for the road. You will have a better time knowing your bike is in excellent condition and prepared for the adventures ahead.
