With so many UTV models in the market today, we can see how picking your next power sports vehicle can be a bit complex. In this blog, we will be making the ultimate UTV comparison between a unit that has evolved throughout the years and one that just got released earlier this year. Kawasaki has finally joined in on the sport side-by-side lifestyle with its brand new Teryx KRX 1000 said to enhance rider confidence with a combination of power, performance, and capability while Yamaha continues to evolve the YXZ 1000R making it one of the highest performance side-by-sides in the world. Both side-by-sides are great Powersports vehicles, but which one will come out on top?

Size:

When comparing these UTV’s in size, the Kawasaki KRX 1000 is 68 inches wide with a 98.8-inch wheelbase. The Kawasaki model has a real sturdy look to it and the longer wheelbase makes the vehicle feel more stable than other competitors. The Yamaha YXZ is 64 inches wide with a 90.5-inch wheelbase. The Kawasaki has an advantage because of its longer wheelbase.

Winner: Kawasaki

Engine:

UTV enthusiasts want a tough vehicle that can handle any terrain so it is important to check out the engine size. The Kawasaki Teryx KRX1000 is equipped with a 999cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke parallel-twin cylinder engine. This engine has plenty of power and is paired with a belt-driven CVT that utilizes a centrifugal clutch, which allows for smooth acceleration and precise throttle control. The Yamaha YXZ 1000R has a 998cc liquid-cooled inline triple-cylinder engine constructed to provide high-revving power with the flexibility and character that only an inline triple can provide. The Kawasaki Teryx delivers great power, but if you are looking for a sportier UTV then the Yamaha YXZ is the UTV for you.

Winner: Yamaha

Transmission:

Complementing the 999cc parallel-twin engine, the Kawasaki KRX has a CVT with a centrifugal clutch to assist with acceleration control at low speeds. This helps throttle control when navigating rock gardens or other tough terrains. The Yamaha YXZ has a manual foot clutch with a 5-speed stick and no belt. It has a launch mode for fast starts and automatically downshifts to first when you slow to a stop. Regular YXZs have a fully manual, sequential-shift five-speed.

Winner: Yamaha

Horsepower:

One of the most important specs a UTV enthusiast looks for in a vehicle is its Horsepower. The greater the horsepower, the faster and quicker the side-x-side. The Kawasaki KRZ and Yamaha YXZ both claim to have 112HP. The Kawasaki KXR is quick enough to be thrilling and smooth enough so anyone can drive it. This unit also has a switch on the dash that allows the driver to use “low” power mode to help new drivers to control the throttle in tricky or rock crawling situations. The Yamaha YXZ is also rumored to be 112 HP. The engine’s power keeps building throughout the midrange.

Fuel Capacity:

When you are out riding, the last thing you want to do is have to stop because you are running out of gas. When looking for a new UTV, the fuel capacity is important because you have an idea of how much fuel the vehicle can hold before having to pump again. The more fuel it can hold the better. The Kawasaki Teryx KRX can hold 10.6 gallons while the Yamaha YXZ 1000R can hold 9 gallons. When it comes to Fuel capacity, Kawasaki is the winner.

Winner: Kawasaki

Interior:

Aside from looking into the spec of each unit, UTV enthusiasts also focus on comfort. A UTV must be comfortable if you will be riding it for long periods of time. The Kawasaki Teryx is nice and roomy. Kawasaki made sure any size driver or passenger can feel comfortable riding this vehicle. Both seats can also slide so the riders can customize their level of comfort. Yamaha also focuses on comfort. The vehicle’s cage makes it easy for the riders to get in and out of the vehicle. The seats are extremely comfortable while offering great support. With both units providing great comfort, we will have to make this a tie.
Winner: Tie

Exterior:

Aside from comfort, a UTV must also look good. IT is no secret that the Kawasaki Teryx KRX looks absolutely incredible. It has a rough-and-tumble look that is sleek at the same time. The grille combined with the LED light combination gives this vehicle a great look. The overall vehicle is sleek and large with full half-doors, a good-sized cockpit, and a large rear cargo area. The colors are great too. You can choose from Lime green/metallic onyx black or metallic moondust white/metallic onyx black. The Yamaha YXZ1000Rhas great LED lighting all throughout the vehicle giving it extra visibility and a sinister sense of style. The Yamaha is available in Gray and Blue.

Winner: Tie

Price:

UTV enthusiasts want a side-x-side that will provide thrilling fun, but also not be super expensive to buy. The Yamaha YXZ1000R has several models, but its base unit has an MSRP of $18,999. There is only one model of the Teryx KRX1000 and it has an MSRP of $20,499. The Kawasaki KRX model is $1,500 more than the Yamaha YXZ base model. If you are looking for a great UTV that is also not that expensive in price, then the Yamaha YXZ is the UTV of choice.

Winner: Yamaha

Conclusion:

So what UTV is better? Honestly, it all depends on customer preference. Both of these UTV’s have pros and cons, but the decision will ultimately come down to the person who is going to be riding it. If you are looking for a well built, reliable car for the open deserts, rocks or wider mountain roads, both of these units can conquer all of that. The Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 and the Yamaha YXZ1000R have all the features for a great sport side-x-side.
