If you’re getting away for the weekend and you choose to visit Lake Havasu in Arizona, know that there is a lot to do out there whether you’re with your friends or family. Lake Havasu is one of the most popular places to visit in Arizona especially if the water is your thing! Many can say that Lake Havasu is one of the best boating lakes in the US. And with over 300 days of sunshine, there is always time and something to do to enjoy your day! Here are 5 places we’ve chosen that we think are worth a visit when in Havasu!

London Bridge:

River goers will tell you the London Bridge is a must visit when out in Havasu. This bridge has an amazing history behind it and it is very impressive to see it become such a popular attraction. It was built in the 12th century and was used to cross over the Thames River in London for over 600 years! Then dismantled in London and then relocated to Arizona in 1967. The London Bridge is the second most popular landmark in Arizona after the Grand Canyon. Visitors are allowed to ride their skis right under the bridge at slower speeds which is perfect so you can enjoy the awesome view!

Insider tip: If you need a good place to eat after exploring and taking a walk over the bridge we recommend stopping by Kokomo. They serve American food and are right by the London Bridge.

The Sand Bar:

This is one of Havasu’s hottest and popular beaching spots on the long stretch of the Colorado River. The Sandbar looks like a small island and around this small island is very shallow water with a soft sandy beach ahead. This shallow water and soft sand allow you to kick back and enjoy the refreshingly cool water in the summertime with your friends and family. You will need a boat to get to this area and there is no cost at all to hang out there.

Insider tip: If you have a ski make sure to stop by Body Beach where you can find some of the best PWC riders practicing and testing in preparation for their next competition.

Topock Gorge:

Accessible only by boat or ski many Havasu visitors put Topock Gorge on the list of things to see! Many people may call it a mini version of the Grand Canyon because its colors are very similar to it. You can find wild burros, big-horn sheep and different species or birds here. Besides driving your boat around you can pull up to its sandy beaches and there are also many jump rocks you can find along the sides of the shorelines!

Insider tip: There is a bridge nearby with a “keep off” warning painted on the side with a rope swing that you can use to jump in the water! There is a staircase you can take to get to the top where you can jump from but keep in mind that during the hotter days of the year the concrete and metal can really heat up!

Parker Dam:

The Parker Dam located right on the border of Arizona and California and is the deepest dam in the world. 75% of this dam is underwater. The area that this dam is in is perfect for watersports, cruising around in your boat or enjoying some of the most scenic views you can get of the Colorado River and Lake Havasu.

Insider tip: The Desert Bar is a hidden and unique watering hole where you can learn and enjoy some history about the old west with a drink in your hand and some good food. You will have to drive about 5 miles on a dirt road but its exclusiveness makes it worthwhile.

Havasu Landing Casino:

The Havasu Landing Casino is located in Lake Havasu City and is a great Casino to stop by and gamble. Their casino alone is an action-packed room with over 500 machines to play on. They have tons of machines and whether you are a penny player or a big risk taker you’ll find something that is perfect for you to pass the time by. Casinos are a great way to spend a hot day in the AC if you’re not in the mood for the water.

Insider tip: This Casino also offers a ferry that can take you around the lake if you want to sit back and enjoy the cool wind from being on a boat.

Time to Hit the Water!

There are definitely many other places that we think deserve a visit but these are some of the more popular must do’s that we have enjoyed. Don’t expect to get all of this done in one weekend unless you’re determined to but going slow and relaxing and kicking back is the way to do Havasu. Whatever you choose to do just remember to have fun!
