Improper Exhaust Upgrades:
Purchasing an aftermarket exhaust for your bike may cause your bike to backfire because it is not for your bike. OEM exhausts are designed to work with standard jetting and most aftermarket exhausts are designed to extract additional performance, but they rarely work with standard jetting.
Solution: your bike needs to be jetted or tuned correctly to suit the new aftermarket exhaust.
Carburetor Issues:
Checking your carburetor should be one of the first things that come to mind when a motorcycle backfires. Fuel cannot flow properly through a dirty carburetor; this will cause a lean-running engine. Of course with fuel injection, this is very rare as the fuel intake is regulated.
Solution: Cleaning the carburetor with a high-grade carburetor cleaner will allow fuel to run and flow properly.
Clogged Jets:
Jets on a motorcycle can somethings develop a thick gunky-like substance. Checking your jets to make sure that is not clogged up with debris or this gunk may solve the backfiring issue your motorcycle is having.
Solution: Clean out your jets with the proper tools and jet cleaner.
Low-Fuel Grade:
If you use to low-fuel grade on your bike, you may want to consider using higher-grade fuel. Using low-fuel grade may cause you to end up with a tank of dirty gas, then that gas causes issues with your fuel injection.
Solution: Consider using a higher-grade fuel for your motorcycle. Using high-grade fuel will ultimately give you clear fuel lines and also a cleaner tank of gas.
Dirty Fuel Injector:
If your motorcycles are fuel injected using a high-grade cleaner is a must. You can also refer to your owner’s manual to use the cleaner that the manufacturer recommends. Do so removes the jetsam and flotsam that are present in the fuel lines.
Solution: Cleaning out your fuel injector will result in a smoother ride and prevent any backfire.
