If you’re taking a trip to Glamis odds are you will be spending your time out and about exploring the dunes. You might find yourself too far from camp and want to reenergize with a fun atmosphere and some good food. Duners Diner is a great place to stop and do just that. They serve American dishes and are considered a Café, Bar & Grill. You can ride right up to the restaurant and park your SXS, dirt bike, or whatever off-road vehicle you may be on. They’re open during the season but only on the weekends. Friday-Saturday from 8 AM-7:30 PM and Sundays, 8 AM-2 PM.
How to Get There:
There are a few ways to arrive at Duners Dunes. If you choose to ride from camp you will use coordinates, and for this spot they are 32.7103° N, 114.9609° W. You can also choose to stop by with your truck/car as it is right off of the Kumeyaay Hwy and Gordon Wells Rd. This makes the restaurant very accessible from either direction. Come one come all!
History:
For over 40 years Duners Diner has been very popular and must stop for many Glamis goers. Once called Pair a Dice, many still enjoy the easy access parking and the fact that you can drive your rail or SxS right to the door. They’ve been a Thanksgiving week stop for many who make it out for the holidays and have Thanksgiving lunch/dinner here.
Newly Renovated:
Back in 2017, the restaurant decided to renovate. Riders can now enjoy their meals under a solid shaded area and have a lot of space for large groups. Their décor of tables with engines through the middle are unique and fit the environment and sport they are surrounded by. They have also added areas where kids and adults can hang out if they’re not eating but not quite ready to head back. And now with their new renovations, they host more events that correspond with holidays and winter breaks!
Volleyball and Basketball Court:
You can find a full-size volleyball court next to the dining area. They host annual tournaments where friends and family can team up and enter to win prizes. The basketball court is geared more for the kids. Kids can hang out and play a game or two while taking a break from the action-packed sand.
Popular Dishes:
Every restaurant has some type of popular dish or item they are known for. Duners Diner is known for their Bloody Mary’s which draws people in for either their first time or a repeat visit, that must be a tasty drink! For their breakfast, they’re known for the Heart Attack Bowl which contains cheese, hash browns, bacon, eggs, and sausage. That is a very filling breakfast that’ll make you ready to go for the whole day! Occasionally they will have a Bloody Mary & Taco Bar. And ask about their Prime Rib Specials on Saturday Nights.
Conclusion:
Duners Diner is a well-known spot by many off-road goers and is a great spot to pull over after your long drive down or a great spot to take a break from all of the action going on in the sand. This is definitely a family-friendly/large group spot because of all the space in their dining room. It is no wonder they have served the off-roading community for 40+ years and will continue to be a spot where everyone can enjoy good food and good times.
