What Is The Suzuki Katana?
The original Suzuki Katana was released in 1981 and instantly became a fan favorite for its iconic styling and outstanding performance. Although it was only on the market for 3 years, it had a big impact in the motorcycle world. If you were a motorcycle enthusiast in the early 1980's that wanted a thrill; you wanted a Katana. With its abstract, pointy-nose styling and a claim of being the fastest production bike in the world at the time, the 150mph Katana stamped its mark in the two-wheeled history books with a commanding thud. There was literally no other bike like it...until now!

Retro/Modern Styling?
Although the new Suzuki Katana is not an exact replica of the original, it sure has a couple of inspirational touches from the 1981 iconic motorcycle. The new and improved modern Katana is a beautifully styled, semi-dressed, top class roadster that mixes a lean, sporty profile with a touring riding position, thanks to its comfortable-looking, 32.5-inch-high seat and nicely shaped touring handlebar. The design is highlighted by the metallic mystic silver paint with Katana lettering and logos that the original 1981 model had. Every detail of the modern Suzuki Katana speaks of distinctive beauty.

Comparable to the GSXR1000?
The Suzuki Katana is being release with a few designs inspired by the Suzuki GSXR1000. The Katana arrives with an engine based on the GSX-R 1000 K5 engine housed within a cast aluminum frame and suspended on adjustable front and rear springs. The Katana version will be tuned for better street manners, including smoother throttle response and controlled acceleration. Still, we'll be looking at a motor that produces 150 horsepower at 10,000 rpm, and 80 ft/lbs of torque at 9500 rpm.

Why Is The Katana Coming Back? Why Now?
After 30+ years of its release, Suzuki is paying tribute to that original breathtaking look. The new and improved Katana combines modern, state of the art performance with a retro, yet completely contemporary stance that harkens back to the original. The new Suzuki Katana has the ability to produce a powerful performance with optimal balance and superb controllability to deliver extraordinary excitement and riding joy.
