10 Things You Should Carry in Your Jet Ski/Watercraft
Berts Mega Mall | Powersports Hub
Now that you have your new ski its time to hit the water for some very much needed fun! Before taking off on your ski for the first time there are a couple of items you should store inside of your watercraft. All of these items that will be discussed could help you stay safe and well prepared for whatever may come at you!
Check out these 10 items that we highly recommend storing inside of your jet ski.
Waterproof Phone Case:
We have become so used to always carrying our phones on us no matter what we are doing that a waterproof phone case is mandatory! It is not always a bad thing to carry it with you as they’re very useful and can help you if you’re lost. However, a phone cannot help you if it is wet or submerged under water without any protection! We recommend keeping your phone in a waterproof case and in a dry box as well.
Dock Line:
When wanting to dock your ski you obviously want a dock line to keep your ski stable and in one place. They’re very easy to use and store. Dock lines also work great because they have the slack that is needed if the water is choppy so your PWC can freely move.
First-Aid Kit:
As much as we hate to say it you never know when you’ll need a First-aid kit. Having a kit can do as much as save your life or another in the most unexpected situations. It can be the very thing that gives you a chance to get back to the docks/boat/shore. Carrying items like wraps and bandages to immobilize fractures and provide support, antiseptic wipes, a mini roll of duct tape or waterproof bandages can all be very helpful.
Air Horn:
Carrying an Air horn on your ski is important to get another boaters attention if you need help. It can be very difficult to hear shouts from someone in a large body of water and horns will certainly be heard. Choosing a bright colored horn or whistle can also help you a little more to be easily seen on a bright day.
Towel:
Not many people think about storing a towel in their ski but it is nice to be able to dry off before leaving your ski and doing something non-water related. Like having lunch or getting ready to pack up and go, at least you’ll be dry! And after you are done using your towel you could also use it to wrap anchors or other sharp objects to avoid damaging your ski! 2 uses in 1!
PWC Safety Lanyard:
You should always carry a safety lanyard on you but we also recommend carrying an extra one because the other one may get lost while you’re on your ski and it is important to have one on so that it can hit the kill switch if you fall off of your ski. Make sure to have the right extra lanyard, not all are universal!
Watercraft Registration:
You are required to carry your watercraft registration on you at all times when in the water to keep it dry or unfortunately you may have to pay the consequences of the law! It can easily be kept dry by putting it in a dry box as we mention earlier along with your phone.
Re-boarding ladder:
Jet Skis do not come with ladders as boats do. Ladders are not the first thing that comes to mind when purchasing your ski either but has one on you ready to go is super helpful especially if you do not feel strong enough to pull yourself up and out of the water to get back on the ski. They are also very easy to store, you won't even know its there!
Knife:
Having an accessible knife in your jet ski can help you out if your ski gets caught in something that it cannot be freed from easily. Like getting caught in rope or maybe even seaweed. Not only could it be helpful to you but maybe another person as well.
Skier Down Flag:
A skier down flag is a must if you’re planning on participating in some watersports or have bumpy waters ahead and your passenger flies off the ski. You want to make sure that other riders and boat drivers can see that you are cautioning them and letting them know there is someone in the water. This little flag could make a BIG difference when riding around a lot of people!
Storing and having every single one of these items is going to make your jet skiing experience an easier one and maybe even a more enjoyable one as each of these things were selected especially for that. They all can be easily stored in your ski also. Just remember to collect all your thoughts from the excitement of purchasing a new ski and make sure you’re prepared to hit the water!
