Southern California’s weather is perfect for the outdoors and what better way to enjoy it then on a personal watercraft or boat! We would like to share 5 of our favorite lakes near and far in California to take your personal watercraft or boat out for a day of fun.

Pyramid Lake

Pyramid Lake is located between the Los Padres National Forest and the Angeles National Forest on the I-5 just 20 miles north of Magic Mountain and boasts some spectacular scenery. Boating, water-skiing and jet skiing are all allowed at Pyramid Lake and there’s plenty of trees and shaded perfectly for a picnic spot and some you can only get to by boat. If fishing is your game fear not as there are large and smallmouth striped Bass, Trout, Blue Gill, and Crappie. There are also camping spots available but no RV hookups so come prepared.

Lake Elsinore

Lake Elsinore is one of the largest jet ski-friendly lakes, almost 3300 acres to be exact. Located in Riverside County with a 14-mile shoreline making it perfect for water recreation enthusiasts to enjoy the entire day but do bring some large umbrella's because the shore does not offer much but that doesn't stop folks from visiting. Boating permits are required for all watercraft users so make sure to have that on your boat or personal watercraft.

Silverwood Lake

Silverwood Lake is one of the leading boat and personal watercraft destinations for residents of the greater Los Angeles area. On holidays and all summer weekends boat launch reservations are highly recommended as the park may fill to capacity and if that happens it will be closed.  All watercraft entering Silverwood Lake SRA will be inspected for standing water and quagga mussels. Any and all vessels that fail inspection will not be allowed to launch and may be turned away from the park because it is a major water source for its surrounding area. If you get a chance to make it to Silverwood Lake enjoy the beautiful scenery as it is surrounded by barren peaks, forested hillsides and the San Bernardino Mountains.

Lake Shasta

Sitting within the Whiskeytown–Shasta–Trinity National Recreation Area, Shasta Lake is California’s largest reservoir. It is a total of 46 square miles and sits at an elevation of 1066 ft, boasting a stunning backdrop of the 2.5 mile high Mount Shasta. Lake. It also has over 364 miles of shoreline. Shasta Lake is popular amongst boaters thanks to its numerous inlets and houseboats are one of the most popular modes of transportation but fishing boats and pontoon boats are also seen cruising around. It is also a popular place for water skiing, stand up paddle boarding and of course fishing. There are numerous marinas found along the lake’s shorelines that offer mooring and launching. Some also have rental services for visitors that don’t come with their own boat or are on a quick getaway which this lake is perfect for!

Lake Perris

Lake Perris State Recreation Area is also located in Riverside County just like Lake Elsinore but is at an elevation of 1,560 feet in a hot, dry and rocky environment. The lake has become a hotspot for freshwater game fishing. Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Bluegill, Rainbow Trout, Channel Catfish, Black Crappie, and Carp are all present in the lake. Jet skiers ages 16 and older can ride from sunrise to sunset at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour in a counter-clockwise orientation on the lake's west side, but all boaters must adhere to a five miles-per-hour speed everywhere else on the lake. Always be alert when riding on this lake since all boaters are allowed to consume alcohol while on the water. State-owned campsites can accommodate overnight guests so can hang out and relax after a day on the water!
