Are you preparing for a long trip? Or maybe just a ride a couple of cities down? You’ve probably already prepared all your regular gear but there are items that are very important and useful to have on hand that can be easily forgotten because there is so much going on all at once.

No need to fret as we will remind you what to not forget!

Spare Keys:

Nothing is worse than spending, what feels like forever, waiting on a tow truck to come to pick up your bike because you’ve accidentally misplaced the key. We strongly recommend keeping a spare on hand at all times. There are many options of where you can store it such as a magnetic key case that could be hidden on the bike or a better spot would be to keep the key on you at all times in a wallet or maybe in your backpack/tank bag attached to other keys. And if you have a spare key on you-you won’t need to waste valuable riding time and money on waiting for those tow trucks that arrive hours later.

Tire Repair Kits:

Normally if you have a flat tire you call a towing company to pick you up and get you to your destination. But what if you are riding on a long highway with not very much traffic and you do not have cell service? Having and knowing how to properly use a tire repair kit is a very important item you could easily carry on you. Make sure to know whether you have a tubeless tire or not so that way you carry the proper kit.

First Aid Kits:

We hope you never have to use this but sometimes carrying a first aid kit can be very beneficial for minor injuries such as small cuts plus First aid kits may even come in handy for others to use when riding in a group. Included in your first aid kit you could always carry some over the counter medications to get rid of an annoying headache that can cause you to lose focus on the road. Carrying your own prescription medication is also very important to remember.

Snacks for snack time:

Rides are all fun and games until you get hungry or feel low in energy and the next food stop is not for another 60 miles. Carrying little snacks that will not go bad in your tank bag or backpack like granola bars, protein bars, energy drink, water, etc. is a great idea to keep you “running”. You don’t need to take a whole refrigerator's worth but just enough to keep you alert until next stop.

Honorable Mentions

You can never go wrong with carrying a flashlight on you as you never know when you’ll need one and be in a dark situation! Next, extra goodie can be some good ole’ sunscreen. If you’re planning on a long ride and the forecast is predicting a bright and sunny day taking extra sunscreen will save you from a gnarly sunburn. And lastly, some type of lens cleaner with a microfiber towel to make sure that you can easily see what is on the road up ahead.

Far away from home and carrying some or all of these items can make your riding experience a more comfortable one. Having extra items can give you a peace of mind knowing you’ve got back-up so remember the next time you’re planning a trip use this list as a starting point and enjoy the ride!
